During the process of making photoshop brushes that work with a mouse, I doodle until I get the settings just right. These doodles (below) become an interesting record of the brush creation.

Similar to great oil or gouache painting, the key to painting with a mouse is letting the brush do the work and moving your mouse with sweeping elbow movements rather than trying to focus on exact detail.
